Maria Regina College, St. Paul's Bay Primary Comenius Project

What is Comenius?

As part of the EU’s Lifelong Learning Programme, Comenius projects aim to help students and educational staff better understand the range of European cultures, languages and values. It addresses issues strongly related to current discussions and developments in school policy: motivation for learning and ‘learning-to-learn’ skills, key competences, digital educational content and inclusive education.

Comenius aims to:
  • Improve and increase the mobility of pupils and educational staff across Europe.
  • Enhance and increase partnerships between schools in different EU Member States, with at least 3 million pupils taking part in joint educational activities by 2010
  • Encourage language learning, innovative ICT-based content, services and better teaching techniques and practices
  • Enhance the quality and European dimension of teacher training
  • Improve pedagogical approaches and school management.

What is this project about?

The world is our mirror. The good we find in others is a reflection of the good present in us. Similarly, the other not so good aspects, are a reflection of ourselves. Let's give to others and at the same time we will be giving to ourselves. Let's appreciate the beauty found around us, and we will be beautiful. Let's admire creativity, and we will be creative, For all of these good thoughts, five European schools - Poland, Romania, Malta, Italy and Lithuania - decided to propose the project.

Our students will take active part in creative artistic projects aimed to turn the attention of the public to certain social issues, such as the elderly, sick children, homeless animals, etc.. The main idea of this Comenius project is employing art to help children not only improve themselves, but also focus on certain social issues. It means giving  our students the chance to show the beauty of their personalities to others.
